About Cooking
Pandaren have a +15 bonus to cooking due to their Racial Gourmand. This means that recipes stay orange for 15 skill points, which can save materials and thus gold in many cases.

Recipe Ranks
Most Legion recipes have 3 ranks. Higher ranks allow you to craft an item with less material cost. So if you can, use only rank 3 recipes. You can get these from merchants, world quests, through reputation, drops in dungeons, or even through victories in Rated Battlegrounds.
If you move your mouse over the little stars in your spellbook, you will see directly where you can get the next rank of the recipe.
Unlock work orders
The best recipes for skilling and the corresponding rank 2 and rank 3 recipes are unlocked through work orders in Nomi’s Test Kitchen in Dalaran.
To unlock the Test Kitchen you have to find a recipe in a Legion Zone, then Nomi appears next to you and pushes you the quest Too Many Cooks (Horde) or The Prodigal Sous Chef (Alliance). The following quest A Good Recipe List requires you to learn 6 different Legion cooking recipes. If the recipes are not counted correctly, just re-log once, that might solve the problem.
These 6 recipes are the easiest to get:
Recipe | Source |
---|---|
Recipe: Bear Tartare | Drop from Mordvigbjorn in Stormheim |
Recipe: Barracuda Mrglgagh | For this recipe you need to complete 3 quests for King Mrgl-Mrgl (42.7, 10.9). The quests are Slime Time, I’ll Huff, I’ll Puff… and Nature vs. Nurture. After these 3 quests you will get the quest Murlocs: The Next Generation which rewards you with the recipe. |
Recipe: Salt and Pepper Shank | For this recipe you have to complete 3 quests in Hochberg. It starts with Amateur Hour and Lion Stalkin’ von Hemet Nesingwary. After that you can take ]I’m Not Lion! from Ellias. |
Recipe: Deep-Fried Mossgill | Get the quest A Village in Peril from Darcy Heathrow in Val’Sharah (54.79, 52.77 on the ground). This quest sends you to Bradensbrook. After you have handed in the quest, go directly to Cecily Radcliffe (37.11, 58.31) and start Shriek No More. |
Recipe: Leybeque Ribs | Drop from Myonix in Suramar (Rare) |
Recipe: Fighter Chow | Kill Salteye Spearguard in Azsuna until you get Okuna’s Message. The item starts the quest Bottled Up which sends you to Lady Irisse. Afterwards you reach IInfiltrating Shipwreck Arena and search for Okuna Longtusk there. Okuna’s quest line rewards you with this recipe. |
Work Order and Cooking Recipe Research
When you have completed the quest A Good Recipe List you are able to submit work orders for any type of Legion Fish or Meat you have in your bags. You start work orders by talking to Nomi. A work order costs 5 fish or meat and takes 4 hours. If you submit a work order with a certain type of meat or fish, there is a good chance that you will get a recipe for that meat or fish. However, there is no guarantee of a recipe. There is a high chance that you will just get Badly Burnt Food.
Leveling Legion Cooking: 1-100
1-50
Use Lean Shank for Work Orders until you get Salt and Pepper Shank.
Then cook:
55 x Salt and Pepper Shank (275 Magere Haxe, 110 Grobes Meersalz, 110 Dalapenoschote)
50-100
There are only 8 recipes that you can use to get to skill 100. You get 7 of them through work orders and you need rank 2 of them, because they grey out from 80. Basically, you don’t need to make anything with rank 1, because you need rank 2 anyway.
If you are Revered with The Wardens, you can buy Recipe: Spicy Falcosaurs’ Omelette from Marin Bladewing in Azsuna and level up to 100 with it. You need about 120-150 Falcosaur Egg for this.
Among the following recipes you can choose the most favourable one and then research with the corresponding meat/fish until you have the rank 2 recipe. You can get recipes twice, so it makes sense to pick up the work orders in between and learn the rank 1 recipes so that you don’t get the same rank 1 recipe again.
List of recipes and the corresponding meat/fish for the work orders:
Recipe | Research |
---|---|
Azshari Salad | Lean Shank or Runescale Koi |
Crispy Bacon | Slice of Bacon |
Fishbrul Special | Cursed Queenfish , Mossgill Perch , Black Barracuda , Highmountain Salmon |
Lavish Suramar Feast | There is no specific fish or meat here. You must have learned all rank 1 recipes of the dishes used in the feast beforehand (excluding Bacon). |
Nightborne Delicacy Platter | Wildfowl Egg , Black Barracuda , Leyblood |
Seed-Battered Fish Plate | Runescale Koi , Silver Mackerel , Stormray |
The Hungry Magister | Highmountain Salmon , Fatty Bearsteak , Big Gamy Ribs , Leyblood |
